Green Steps

Short summary:

Meet Adrián, a zoologist from Spain who chose Green Steps for his ESC year!

• Do you have a Nickname?
Not really, although I prefer to be called “Adri” over the longer version of my name (Adrián).

• Explain to a stranger what do you do for Green Steps?
I am a part of a process of bringing nature closer to the public, especially children and teenagers. Everyday I work with my colleagues in our office creating nature trails that students can play using the ARK. We also collaborate with other organizations, organize screenings with moderation of meaningful films and help with the maintenance of the ARK.

• What is your daily routine? What is something you like doing and your coworkers maybe don’t know about you?
As I’m getting older, I try more and more to have a balanced routine (or: I try to have a balanced routine as often as possible). For this reason, I always try to do something productive everyday but also to have some time for myself and my loved ones. Something my coworkers may not know is that I adore taking pictures of wildlife with my camera.

• Use less than 250 words to tell a story about yourself: starting from “where are you from” to the choice of joining Green Steps.
I was born at the beginning of October in the sunny city of Sevilla. When I was little, I used to spend hours watching and reading all the books about animals that my local library had . Now, after having studied biology and zoology at the university, I see that I always had a clear objective for my future: : I want to help protect wildlife and in consequence, nature. For that reason I have worked as an environmental educator in Botanical Gardens, Aquariums and Museums back in Spain, since I belive that you can only protect something if you love it. And to love something, you first have to know about it. That’s why now I am a volunteer with Green Steps to keep trying to let people know about the wonderful environment we live in.

• Mention a book you read as a teenager that still tells something about you, and that you would still suggest reading.
“The Midnight Library” is a book that had a huge impact on me and the way I see lifeFor this reason I feel like everyone should read it at least once.

• How do you expect you and Green Steps to have an impact in the next years? Close with a wish for the organization.
From my perspective, in the near future Green Steps could strengthen its place in the area of environmental education. I am also hopeful that the reach of the organization will get wider with time and make a difference in the perception that many people have of nature.
